About the Host

Spero Canton is the host of Newsmakers South Florida. He has experienced public exposure from both sides of the microphone, as a television reporter and a corporate spokesman. Spero has cultivated a long, eclectic career covering public relations, politics and broadcast journalism.
Spero has acted as Mayor and councilman of Miami Shores Village in Florida and served on the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade League of the Cities, as well as on various committees of the Florida League of Cities. Spero also served as a three-term President of the Greater Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce.
Spero Canton was a television reporter and anchor at both WTVJ and WPLG in Miami and at KTVI in St. Louis. He won a Gold Coast Emmy during his tenure at WTVJ for a news series called “On or Off the Beam” that exposed the fallibility of police radar systems.
