About the Host

Spero Canton is the award winning host of Comcast Newsmakers in South Florida. With a long career spanning Local Politics, Broadcast and Radio Journalism, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, he has covered the critical news of South Florida from both sides of the microphone. Mr. Canton is currently the Director of Public Relations for Comcast in the South Florida Region, and a member in good standing of the Public Relations Society of America.
Spero has acted as Mayor and councilman of Miami Shores Village in Florida and served on the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade League of the Cities, as well as on various committees of the Florida League of Cities. Mr. Canton also served as a three-term President of the Greater Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce.
As a television reporter and anchor at both WTVJ and WPLG in Miami and at KTVI in St. Louis, Spero Canton became a recognizable figure on the South Florida stage. His reporting earned him a Gold Coast Emmy for a news series called “On or Off the Beam” that exposed the fallibility of police radar systems.
In 2010, the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences awarded Mr. Canton the prestigious Silver Circle Award commemorating the contributions he made towards the broadcasting field during his long and successful career.
